Cairns Wedding Celebrant Services
There are many special occasions in life that will be more meaningful with a specially designed ceremony to mark their significance and together we can design that unique ceremony to reflect your important event.
A wedding is the ceremony where people are united in marriage. Wedding traditions and customs vary greatly between cultures, ethnic groups, religions, countries, and social classes. Most wedding ceremonies involve an exchange of wedding vows by the couple, presentation of a gift (offering, ring(s), symbolic item, flowers, money), and a public proclamation of marriage by an authority figure or leader. Special wedding garments are often worn, and the ceremony is sometimes followed by a wedding reception. Music, poetry, prayers or readings from religious texts or literature are also commonly incorporated into the ceremony.
Under the marriage Act 1961 there are certain obligations that you, as a couple intending to get married, must meet prior to a marriage ceremony being solemnized:
A Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) must be lodged with your Marriage Celebrant no less than one month and no more than eighteen months prior to the marriage being solemnized.
Proof of identify for persons born in Australia is required so you need to produce your original Birth Certificate, or authorised extract. Persons born outside Australia are also required to produce birth certificates or overseas passport.
If a person has been previously married a copy of the Decree Absolute/Divorce Certificate or Death Certificate whichever is applicable, must be produced. Before the wedding both partners will be required to sign a declaration, under the Marriage Act 1961, stating that you believe there is no legal impediment to the marriage between yourself and your partner. This is a legal document and under Section11 of the Statutory Declaration Act 1959 it is an offence to make a false statement and is punishable by imprisonment for a term of four years.
A ceremony of commitment is a bond of love between two people and does not involve any legal requirements. This is a beautiful way to share your commitment to each other with family and friends.
Naming ceremonies are a welcome celebration for your children and are a way of sharing with your family and friends this important rite in our society. This ceremony will reflect your views and beliefs as parents and will be unique for every naming.
